In the United States, PMI is a recognized leader in affordable housing. PMI and The PMI Foundation support national and local organizations that create housing opportunities and help revitalize communities. By providing affordable housing options for low- to moderate-income borrowers, PMI helps families build wealth through homeownership. In addition to providing direct housing opportunities, PMI participates in numerous housing advocacy activities and supports credit counseling.
PMI established the Gateway Cities Initiative, a revolving fund that finances the construction or rehabilitation of homes in low-income neighborhoods. PMI has successfully implemented Gateway neighborhoods in cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, CA, Houston, TX, and Chicago, IL.
The PMI Foundation also contributes to organizations such as Social Compact and Junior Achievement.
Social Compact is a coalition of business leaders from across the country that promotes successful business investments in underserved communities by addressing key impediments to private investment in inner-city neighborhoods. PMI has supported Social Compact with financial and other donations, and several PMI executives sit on the organization's board of directors.
Junior Achievement provides in-school education programs about business, economics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and career development for students in elementary, middle, and high school. Each year, a team of PMI employees visits a local school to spend a day teaching students about business economics and the importance of homeownership.
